Oceanside — Day 3

On the third day of our adventure, we set off for LEGOLAND – the ultimate paradise for LEGO lovers of all ages, from 0 to 99.

Our first visit to the park was in summer 2022, when Matthew was nearly four years old and Jordan was barely a toddler. Despite meeting the height requirements for many rides, Matthew wasn’t quite ready for the adrenaline rush back then. Nor did he cared much about brick-building. Coupled with the bustling summer crowds, our first visit left much to be desired.

However, since our first trip, Matthew has developed a deep passion for building LEGO sets. At 5 years old, he approaches experiences with heighten awareness, understanding and engagement. Inspired by his newfound enthusiasm and maturity, as well as Jordan’s “down-for-anything” spirit, we felt ready to give LEGOLAND another chance.

We bought our tickets through “Funex” the night before and arrived at the park shortly after opening, our beach wagon in tow. The weather graced us with glorious temperatures in the lower 70s, and being a Wednesday, Legoland was pleasantly quiet. This fortuitous timing spared us from enduring long, bustling queues or feeling the need to purchase a “Reserve n’ Ride” pass. As a result, the kids were able to swiftly hop onto most rides without much delay.

Overall, both Matthew and Jordan reveled in the day’s adventures. They both relished in experiences like Captain Cranky’s Challenge—a swaying and rotating pirate ship, Beetle Bounce (reminiscent of ‘Drop Zone’ but for kids), and LEGO City’s Deep Sea Adventure, a treasure-hunting submarine ride. Matthew even joined Drew on a rollercoaster ride!

For lunch, we grabbed a quick bite at Fun Town’s Urban Market. Matthew opted for a hot dog, while Jordan chose chicken tenders. Surprisingly, the meals were quite delicious! Each came with a side of small fries, a box juice, and a bag of fruit gummies, all for $12. Additionally, I had packed some fruits (apples, oranges, and bananas) for the kids to snack on in the park, along with a couple of boiled eggs and a bag of Kettle chips.

We stayed at the park until 4 p.m., by which time the kids were running on fumes and promptly fell asleep as soon as we got in the car. Despite encountering a couple of challenging moments, the day was a success!
