Bend is known for easy Summer living with people coming from out of town to partake in a plethora of outdoor activities the town has to offer. Our first day in Bend started with a hike in the Tumalo State Park, a beautiful forest full of lush sugar pines (for as far as your eyes can see) with rivers and creeks running through it. Though the hike was moderately challenging, our effort paid off as we were rewarded with breathtaking views the Tumalo Falls.

After the hike we we made a quick run to Fred Meyer, or “Freddie’s” as it is known locally, to pickup a few things. If you are not familiar with the chain store, it’s a Safeway, Target, and Macy’s all rolled into one — pretty cool!
One of the favorite local pastimes in Bend when the weather is warm is to hang out on the Deachutes River. We decided to check it out. We rented intertubes and floated leisurely down the river for a couple of hours in the late afternoon. Now this is how summer vacation is supposed to be! (Unfortunately we didn’t our phones with us. Will try to take some pictures before we leave town tomorrow.)
If you’re ever in Bend and like a good beer, you mustn’t forget to visit the Deschutes Brewery. Our dinner included a delicious beer flight. Even Jenny who isn’t usually a beer fan was impressed.
Our night ended early. We were back at our hotel by 9 to catch the anticipated Game of Thrones season finale!
