Crater Lake, OR — Day 2

We arrived at Rim Village around 11 o’clock and took in the breathtaking view of Crater Lake. The water was so crystal blue that it looked like part of the sky.

Crater Lake was formed by a collapsed volcano during an enormous eruption over seven thousand years ago. One very unique feature of the Lake is that it has no streams/rivers connected to it; it is filled 100% from rain and snow.

We drove around the rim of the lake, experiencing the view from different vantage points, after which we had lunch at the Crater Lake Lodge, a historic* hotel overlooking the Lake. (*The 102-year-old Crater Lake Lodge is the only accommodation inside the park and is fully booked through 2019.)

We headed north to Bend after lunch.  We did a lot of driving in the last two days, and we look forward to staying put for a few days.
