Santa Barbara — Day 2

Today we decided to go hiking—one of our favorite things to do. There was no shortage of options. After a bit of research, we chose Inspiration Point/Jesusita Trail, a 7.5 mile round trip trail with gorgeous rock formation. Packed two homemade sandwiches, an apple and two bottles of water, then off we go.

The hike was challenging. There was not a lot of shade on the way up. The trail was also pretty dry due to the drought. However, the view from the top made the effort worthwhile. We could see all of Santa Barbara and the Channel Islands. We found a secluded spot to enjoy our lunch and Drew got stung by a bee that wanted his apple. He is OK—not sure about the bee though.

After a nap we decided to have a nice dinner out for our last night in Santa Barbara. We went to Toma, a local Italian restaurant, for appetizers and drinks. Ordered the restaurant’s famous raw tuna cones. They were absolutely delicious! We’ll let the picture speak for itself. For our main dinner, we walked to The Black Sheep, a couple of blocks away, for a slightly more adventurous culinary experience. Among the many types of ingredients it uses include pig brains, sweetbreads (innards/throat), and pork belly. Every traditional dish had a different twist. The safest thing we ordered was roasted beets with burrata cheese and pears. Drew did convince me to try the sweetbreads, which was actually pretty good.
